The Four of Cups – A Deep Dive into the Murder of Crows Tarot
This deck’s guide says: You have perched for too long in one place and have forgotten what you were waiting for. In the mists of solitude you can contemplate unhatched plans and unfulfilled dreams; you can try to remember who you were supposed to be. But if you remain seated here, you might stagnate in a fog of anguish and regret, knowing what you have failed to accomplish and what has eluded your grasp. Look over your shoulder, a possibility awaits you, if you will only notice it. Look over your shoulder.
Keywords: Quest for perfection, doubt, completion, ignorance.
– Charles Harrington, Murder of Crows Tarot Deck
The Murder of Crows deck is unique in that its card meanings are written to include both the negative and positive sides of the card whether it be upright or not. Generally, when I read with these cards, I will consider both the negative and positive regardless of its position. However, should one become reversed, I interpret its negative meaning a bit more strongly than I do when it is upright. However, because this is a post, incorporating emphasis one way or the other is a bit difficult. If you’d like to explore these cards or get a further reading, you can book a reading here!
What is the Minor Arcana?
56 Cards out of 78 in a tarot deck belong to the Minor Arcana. While the Major Arcana represents long term major pivotal life moments, the Minor Arcana touches on shorter term, everyday occurrences. The Minor Arcana is broken down into 4 suits. Wands, Pentacles, Swords, and Cups. Kings of every suit represent a position of authority and power. They are almost always a sign that there is power for you to be granted if you are up to the task, but it’s up to you to seize the opportunity. The Cups cards are also known as the Chalices or Hearts. These cards represent your emotional self and the things affected by your emotional and astral state of being. Love, Intuition, Relationships, Fantasy, Imagination, Creativity. The Cups cards often appear in Tarot readings about relationships and your emotional connection with yourself and others.
The Four of Cups – Minor Arcana
The Four of Cups shows a young man sitting under a tree with his arms and legs crossed before him. He is looking off into the distance, seeming to be in contemplation or meditation. He is so distracted he doesn’t even notice the Crow perched up above him.
The Four of Cups represents our tendency to take things for granted. It makes it hard for us to see what treasures the universe presents us with. We tend to have the answers to our troubles right around us, but we tend to focus too much on what we don’t have rather than what we do. When the Four of Cups appears, you may be feeling discouraged and unmotivated. You may feel as if there is no solution or way forward in your situation. Life has become stagnant and nothing seems to make you happy. You feel as if your passion is lost. You’re feeling apathetic – regardless of what happens, whether the day is good or bad, none of it matters to you.
You must search your motives, instincts and thoughts so that you can find your passion again. The Four of Cups revolves around finding your true interests and working towards fulfilling them. Our lives are short, and sometimes monotonous, but we must create meaning for ourselves. Our individual callings are not just there for us to find, but to decide and to imagine.
